Church History - The church led by the Word, Pyungkang Cheil Church

01. Foundation (1960s)

Four members soon grew to over thirty members who built the first temple in Daebang-dong, Dongjak-gu, Seoul named Mt. Zion Church.

- October 1964 Rental church in Wonhyo-ro, Seoul (30 members)
- September 1969 The first church in Daebang-dong, Dongjak-gu, Seoul was bestowed the name of Mt. Zion Church

 

02. Developing a place for growth (1970s)

A new church named Ilseok (One Stone) Church was established on over 6,000 square feet of land in Sillim-dong, Seoul. Six years later, it moved to Noryangjin, Seoul, where it was named  Daesung (Big Voice) Church.

- November 1971 A new two-story church named Ilseok (One Stone) Church was built
- July 1977 Daesung (Big Voice) Church was built on over 6,000 square feet of land purchased in Noryangjin, Seoul
- 1978 Established Evergreen Hill Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles, California USA

 

03. Shouting loudly as the lion cries (1980s)

The 1980s was a time of explosive growth. The church purchased an 8-acre retreat site on Mt. Seorak in Gangwon province named the Jehovah-Jireh Retreat Center. In addition, three years after the transfer to Noryangjin, Seoul, the congregation size began to outgrow and overwhelm the facilities.  This lead to prayer and preparation for the move to a new church site.

04. Prepare the Tabernacle (1990s)

In November 1991, the church grew to a point where it crossed over into a truly international church, with a responsibility for sharing its message and guiding its members on a global scale.

- April 1990 Purchased the present 50-acre site of the church
- October 1990 Established Gospel of the Kingdom Church in Sydney, Australia
- March 1991 Established Green Pastures Presbyterian Church in Tacoma, Washington USA
- October 1991 Established Love First Presbyterian Church in Boston, Massachusetts USA

- March 1993 Established Zion Church in Ontario, CANADA
- November 1993 Newly built sanctuary ('Moriah Sanctuary')

 

05. Prosper with the Word of God (mid-90s ~ 2010s)

As the church was moved to Oryu-dong, Seoul, its name was changed to Pyungkang Cheil (Peace First), representing its vision to become “The church that conveys the peace of Christ to the whole world.” The focus of the church locally has been to build new local churches and training centers in order to further spread the Word. Various christian cultural ministries and social service ministries have been developed and strengthened with the help of local residents.

- January 1995 Changed the name of church to Pyungkang Cheil Church
- November 1997 Zion Church in Ontario, CANADA Changed the name to The Living Hope Church
- November 1998 Established Myungsung Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA
- November 1998 Opened the Abraham Park Kenneth Vine Collection at the Pyungkang Biblical Archaeology Museum
- October 1999 Founded the 
Huisun Foundation
- November 2000 Established Evergreen Presbyterian Church in Vancouver, Canada
- July 2001 Established Purity Presbyterian Church in Ontario, Canada
- January 2002 The Living Water Presbyterian Church in Washington D.C., USA
- February 2002 Established New Light Church in South Carolina, USA
- March 2005 Established Bethesda Church in Arkansas, USA
- August 2005 Launched publication of the Christian World Newspaper in
USA
- July 2007 Purchased Pyungkang Cheil
Training Center in Yeoju, Gyeonggi Korea
- April 2009 Held a Biblical History of Redemption Series Seminar in Gimpo, Korea
- January 2010 Established Evergreen Retreat in Orlando, Florida USA
- July 2012 Established Lord's Covenant Church in Malaysia
- October 2012 Held a Biblical History of Redemption Series Seminar in Osaka, Japan

 

06. Publish History of Redemption Series and open up a new year (~ present)

The publication of the History of Redemption Series was a landmark event of Korean and Pyungkang Cheil Church history. The History of Redemption Series explained the significance of redemption throughout biblical history. As the 'History of Redemption Series' was published, the Christian came to pay attention to Korea and Pyungkang Cheil Church.
The 'History of Redemption Series' has been translated and published in 16 languages around the world, including English, Japanese, Chinese, Indonesian, Spanish, German and Hebrew. The seminars of the Redemption History have been held successfully in North America, South America, Asia, Europe, and Africa.

- March 2010 Published Series 2 'The Covenant of the Torch’ in English
- July 2010 Published Series 5 'The Promise of the Eternal Covenant' in Korean
- October 2010 Published Series 2 ‘The Covenant of the Torch’ in Japanese
- November 2010 Held a Biblical History of Redemption Series seminar in Jakarta, Indonesia
- December 2010 Held a Biblical History of Redemption Series seminar in Orlando, USA
- February 2011 Held Biblical History of Redemption Series seminars in Singapore & India
- March 2011 Published Series 3 'The Unquenchable Lamp of the Covenant in English
